Royal is an old variety originating in the United Kingdom. It is smaller than most medlars, usually growing to about 6’ tall. Very ornamental and easy to grow, it is considered to be the best variety for fresh eating. Also good for cooking and preserves, it is one of the most productive varieties. Self-fertile with fruits in the 1 1/2 -2" range
