The pointy leaves are ornamentally significant and turn yellow in fall. The fruits are showy bright red pomes that turn purple with age. They are carried in abundance from early to mid fall. Crab apples may be made into many food items but the best known is crabapple jelly, a favorite with everyone, Crabs can also be used to improve the flavor in apple ciders mixes and are excellent as a pollinator for regular apple trees. 3-4; seedlings lite branching.
